Dubai has moved ahead with plans for a 55km metro link connecting two international airports, a project that could significantly improve travel between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC). The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has invited consultants to bid for a study and design contract for the proposed Airport Express Line, according to regional project reports.
New Metro Plan to Connect DXB and DWC
The proposed line is expected to run about 55 kilometres and include five stations. It will link DXB in Al Garhoud with DWC in Jebel Ali, creating a direct transport corridor between Dubai’s two main aviation hubs. The move comes as Dubai continues to expand Al Maktoum International Airport and prepare for long-term passenger growth.
The new route is designed to improve movement for travellers, airline staff and residents. It is also expected to support districts along the corridor, including growing residential and business areas.
Advanced Passenger Services Planned
One of the key features of the project is the addition of airport-focused services at stations. Reports say passengers may be able to complete remote airline check-in, baggage drop-off and security screening before reaching the terminal. If implemented, this would reduce congestion at airports and speed up transfers.

Proposed Route and Key Stops
Current plans indicate the line would begin from the Red Line station serving DXB. It would then pass through Al Jaddaf, continue along Al Khail Road, and reach a new station at Jumeirah Village Circle before heading south to DWC.
Two spur lines are also under review. One would connect JVC to the Al Fardan Exchange station near Emirates Golf Club, while another would branch toward Business Bay.
These additions would strengthen citywide access and connect business districts with the airport corridor.
