Kuwait is advancing plans for a transformative $12 billion northern airport, part of the broader Northern Gulf Gateway initiative. The project aims to create a state-of-the-art aviation hub with the capacity to serve 13 million passengers in its first stage, eventually scaling up to 50 million travelers annually. The airport will feature modern terminals, control towers, dedicated runways, and enhanced cargo facilities to boost trade logistics.

Economic Impact

This initiative is projected to attract up to $200 billion in foreign direct investment while contributing approximately $220 billion to the country’s GDP. The government intends to connect the airport with Kuwait City through a metro link, reducing congestion and improving transit efficiency. The plan also includes environmental design features such as heat reduction and enhanced natural lighting to promote sustainability.

Infrastructure and Sustainability

The Northern Gulf Gateway seeks to position Kuwait as a key logistics and transportation hub in the region, supporting economic diversification and job creation during the construction and operational phases. Construction work has started with projected timelines aiming for phased completion over the next decade.
