RAK Wastewater Treatment Deal brings a new plant to Ras Al Khaimah. The government signed a long-term Sewage Treatment Agreement with a consortium of Etihad Water and Electricity, TAQA Water Solutions, and Saur International.
Plant Capacity and Reach
The Ras Al Khaimah Wastewater Treatment Plant will process 60,000 cubic meters of sewage each day. It will serve up to 300,000 people once complete. The project upgrades the emirate’s wastewater system to handle city growth and improve services.
PPP Model Explained
This marks Ras Al Khaimah’s first public-private partnership in infrastructure. The Public Services Department leads the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer setup. The consortium handles design, funding, building, and running the plant before handing it back.
Key Infrastructure Work
The deal includes a 6.3 km gravity pipeline to collect wastewater. A 26 km network will distribute treated water for reuse in irrigation and cooling. Leaders plan to recycle 100% of the output to support UAE sustainability goals.
