Khazna Data Centres has announced that its DXB8 site in Dubai has secured Khazna Dubai zero-waste certification, making it the first data centre globally to receive the recognition. The zero-waste certification was awarded by SCS Global Services after an independent review of the facility’s waste management performance over a 12-month period.
According to the company, the DXB8 facility recorded a 99.55% waste diversion rate from landfill during the audit period. This means nearly all waste generated through site operations was redirected through approved recycling, reuse, composting and recovery channels.
Global First for the Data Centre Industry
The certification applies specifically to the data centre sector, where waste management is becoming a larger focus alongside energy efficiency and emissions reduction. Khazna said the result positions DXB8 as the first facility of its kind worldwide to meet the recognised standard.
SCS Global Services is an international certification body that assesses environmental and sustainability standards across industries. Its zero-waste programme evaluates how effectively organisations prevent waste from reaching landfill through structured management systems.
How DXB8 Reached the Standard
Khazna said the Dubai facility used several waste diversion methods during the assessment period, including:
- Recycling of operational materials
- Reuse programmes with suppliers
- Resale of usable materials
- Composting streams
- Other approved recovery solutions
The company stated that the audit scope excluded tenant IT equipment waste generated inside data halls, focusing instead on operational waste under facility management control.
