Jacobs, in joint venture with AECOM, has been appointed by New Murabba Development Company to provide design services for The Mukaab, the iconic centrepiece of Riyadh’s New Murabba development. This project is a major part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative focused on sustainable and human-centred urban growth.
The Mukaab: A Landmark Urban Development
The Mukaab will be one of the world’s largest built structures, covering 247 acres (100 hectares). It will anchor a new mixed-use downtown development that includes residential, hospitality, retail, and cultural spaces. The design is inspired by Najdi architecture, reflecting the traditional style of central Saudi Arabia, while integrating cutting-edge digital and immersive technologies.
Scope of Jacobs and AECOM’s Design Services
The joint venture’s design work covers the Mukaab itself and its surrounding podium areas. This includes infrastructure elements such as road tunnels, the Mukaab Core, wadi podiums, and public realm spaces designed to enhance connectivity and urban experience.
Leadership Perspectives on The Mukaab Project
Jacobs CEO Bob Pragada described the project as a chance to redefine urban life in Riyadh by combining design innovation with technology in line with Vision 2030. Zaher Abu Hijleh, Jacobs’ Senior Vice President, Middle East, highlighted the blend of Saudi cultural identity with advanced sustainable and technological principles. He stressed the importance of collaboration between international and Saudi talent to deliver a transformative urban environment.
Jacobs’ Ongoing Role in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030
The Mukaab project adds to Jacobs’ growing portfolio of high-impact urban and infrastructure developments in the Middle East. These include Diriyah’s Wadi Safar and King Salman International Airport, both pivotal programs supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification and community enrichment goals.
